That certainly was the cry from an excellent turnout of former fans & football enthusiasts, as we enjoyed a truly nostalgiac video show of Thirds in Action.in the Quaiche Bar last night
In the space of 90 minutes, we saw a total of 7 Thirds' goals, no bookings or ordering off incidents. and superb displays from a galaxy of top Stars of the fifties & sixties. A total of 2 league points and the Glasgow Charity Cup going to Cathkin.in the process.
The only football colours on show were the Scarlet Jerseys of Third Lanark.
Extra Time brought the inevitable questions, and they came in fast & furious.
JIMMY MASON 1936 - 1952. The very recent elevation of 2 European players' into the SFA's Hall of Fame, featured largely in the opening discussion. Everyone agreed that both Larsson & laudrop were singularly blessed with an abundance of talent, and both had contributed massively to the successes enjoyed during their sojourn with Celtic & Rangers. The big question was simple - Why ,with their relatively short spells of service ,compared to many others, had they been given this major honour ?. In truth, why given it before one of the finest ever inside forwards to grace Scottish Football.wee Jimmy.
Could it be that the reason in addition to their undoubted skills, was that it was a much more financially prudent decision.
On several occasions I have unsuccessfully put forward Mason's case for consideration to the S.F.A. Of course my pleas do not carry the support of tens of thousands Old Firm fans, but they are completely supported by the football criteria listed on the SFA site, for recognition - to the letter.
In a separate note, for all friends interested , I will detail Mason's statistics etc. Should you wish to join me in my next attempt for his recognition please submit direct to the SFA your own letter of support.
I'm sure the Mason family, would be thrilled to accept on their Dad's behalf this unique & thoroughly deserved honour- albeit belatedly as was his International call up.
Finally last night we asked for & received many suggestions for an event to be organised next year, to mark the 40th Anniversary of Thirds' demise.
Early in the new Year we will update you on developments on this one.
May I thank you all for coming along, and hopefully the presentation was sufficiently interesting to make such events worth repeating.
My special thanks to Pat McGeady, Matt Currie, & his dad, who not only supplied but set up the AV equipment. Thanks also to the Staff of the Quaiche.
