Return of Third Lanark

Well Sean Connery and Billy Connolly were obviously on the wind up about resurrecting Thirds. But it is no doubt something which has been at the forefront for a lot of peoples minds for the last 40 years.

Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the end of the Hi-Hi and there are a few of us who are very determined to try and get a Third Lanark team of some kind back for season 2007-2008. It would msotly likely be amateur level but the main point would be that there would be a team called Third Lanark playing football.

Whoever you are, whatever team you support if you are interested in helping in any shape of form please let us know. Be it playing, coaching, administration, PR, sponsorship etc we need your help. You can be a fan who saw the great Hi-Hi in action or like me born after their demise would love to see them back then get in touch. Any ideas, suggestions or offers to help in any way please send them in. Or i fyou knwo people who eprhaps dont have a computer but would love to help then please pass the information onto them.

There are supporters of all teams who use this forum - Pollok, Heart, Hibs, Celtic, Rangers, Kilmarnock and of course my own beloved Partick Thistle to name just a handful, there are many more. All are united in one thing their passion for football and above all an interest in some kind of Third Lanark!

Season 2004-2005 saw the resurrection of the Third Lanark amateurs for a season and it was great,s tanding on the terraces at Cathkin, fans old and new there. Chants of the Hi-Hi around Cathkin again. Had the pleasure of talking to a number, there was even a fan filming the matches to forward to his mate in Austrailia, both had followed Thirds in the fifties and sixties.

The point is the support is there, Cathkin is there, so lets get a team back!
Incidentally there will hoepfully be a number of events over the next year or so with the 40th Anniversary. First off we are plannign for a video night for November (date and venue tbc) again the more wishing to attend and help the better.

Anyway apologies for the length of post, im heading for a week to sunny Spain but I hoep there are going to be plenty of replies when I get back, suggestions etc.
So come on lets make a start in seeing the return of the Hi-Hi.

It would be great if the old name was resurrected even if only for one season and more especially with the big Four O approaching.

Just wondering what happened to TL amateurs of a couple of seasons ago they seemed to being going well what with winning the league etc and now nothing. It would have been ideal if they had survived but running these teams involves a lot of personal sacrifice and time so i suppose these amateur teams are there one season and gone the next. I guess the ideal would be to get an established team to change its name for a year and use Cathkin for their games...but don't know if this is acceptable practice.

In 1997 (30th anniversary) there was a match staged between Thirds and Giffnock North (pic in Bob Lairds book) where five old Hi Hi's played:Evan Williams,David Brady,Hugh McLaughlin,Tony Connell and Alan McKay.I was in attendance but have to say if memory serves it wasn't very well supported perhaps due to location...a Junior ground would have given it a higher profile...so maybe something along those lines would be better although it would have to be an over 60s match!!!!...what about 'sons' of old Thirds players .
