Was on the news the other day about this team possibly getting into the Senior English Leagues again which would be great news. Apparently they became defunct in 1962 though were resurrected a few years later where they have played since in non league football.

Its stories like that which always keep me hopeful that one day we will see a return of the HiHi. Think Accrington Stanley still have a failry large support as well, think if Thirds were brought back could easily see after a couple of years several hundred fans following.

Heres hopeing one of us wins the lottery soon

They had quite a Scottish connection with several on their books most notably at one time Joe McInnes...possibly the only player to play for two teams who went out of their respective leagues . I think also Jimmy Harrower was their Manager at one point yeah be great to see such a famous name back in the Football League which would mean all league founding members are now playing in the main divisions again...quite a distinction.


Got a soft spot for Carlisle United and manage to go down to see them a couple of times a season aiming to get to the Torquay match at the end of the month.Doing well as they were in the conference last season and now looking good for promotion to Div1...opposite for Torquay who were in Div1 last season and now look to be heading for the conf .

Strange that when Stanley lost their League place, who should take their place but............Oxford United.
Now we see United being replaced by.............YUP, Accrington Stanley. Spooky or what.

If you haven't already seen it, Greger Lindberg's very impressive website devoted entirely to the "original" Accrington Stanley (1891-1966) is definitely well worth a visit. You can find it at http://www.accringtonstanley.has.it/


Jimmy Harrower was indeed their manager at one point (1960-61). Another notable manager they had was Walter Galbraith (1953-58). Galbraith tended to look towards his native Scotland when recruiting players - the Stanley team which played in a top-of-the-table match against York City in April 1955 were all Scots!

Didn't Wattie Dick (who was before my time) play for 3 sides, Bradford Park Avenue, Accrington Stanley and Third Lanark, who all went bust?


Stanley reformed and are back in the Football League, Bradford PA reformed and got as high as Conference North but have now slipped back to Unibond One.  Pity about the thitd one.
