Hi everybody, Just found your site tonite as I was browsing and just had to sign up. To young to remember the Thirds im afraid but have always had this strange feeling of affilliation with them. Most of my visits to Cathkin Park were made over the last 5-6 years while going to the Claymores (American Football), at Hampden. As a "Mores" fan I do know about a love being taken away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Have had a look over the site and must say I am quite impressed with it. The only thing I can suggest is how about a photo section with purely pictures of the ground then and now. OK, I know you can only look at so many pictures of the same bit of grass, but I think it would be of interest......... Yours for now.

Welcome TFF to the forum always good to get new contributors.
Have to say i never saw the Claymores play but i did get 'into' American fitty when C4 were pushing it late 80s early 90s (pre Sky in our house) anyway kinda drifted away from it...
A photo page would be good for the forum in fact i did endeavour to put a 'pic on a post' but it wouldn't accept (or else i was making a pigs ear of it) and i'm sure some of the others have pics they would like to include....attention Mr Moderator!
Hullo again, Have just thought , if you did have a page of photos, how about other old stadiums as well, we still have what little remains of St Bernards ground at the Gynasium and Bank Park, home of Leith Athletic here in Edinburgh. By the way, do Third Lanark ladies team still exist, i seem to remember a programme on TV some time ago about them.

Hi TFF,
Welcome to the forum. A friend of my dads father used to support St Bernards and I always presumed both theres and Leith Athletics ground had long disappeared. Could you give me directions mate to where they are in Edinburgh as I would like to have a visit. Did you know that in the Edinburgh amateur leagues there are two teams who play under those two famous names.
Leith Athletic are definitely taken from the famous Leith Athletic team but am not too sure if the St Bernards name is any link to the grand old Edinburgh team. Third Lanark Ladies team no longer exist but as youa re probably aware there is now a Third Lanark under 19's who won their league last year and who this year will be palying in the under 21's league. Games are at Cathkin PArk.
Sad to hear about the Claymores it would be nice to think that if Third Lanark, Clydebank and Leith Athletic can all make a return in some shape or form there is still hope for the Claymores.
Welcome aboard famous five. I trust you mean the great Smith, Johnstone, Reilly, Turnbull and Ormond famous five, and no the Enid Blyton version ( just kiddin').
I am old enough to have seen those bad boys play, and they were magnificent! my wee pal is from Edinburgh, and claims to have played for hibs youth for an extended period, I know for certain that he played Junior football (Bonnyrigg I think) he's got the papers -and scars- to prove it!
Anyway it's good to hear from you ---keep posting!
Hi Panda, Yes it is THAT Famous Five. I am far to young to have seen them play but mummy is always telling me about when she used to watch them. My brother was named after Gordon Smith which riles me something rotten !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. My actual interest regards Thirds (until now), was always wanting to find out where they played and to stand in the centre circle at Cathkin. Thank you for the welcome. TFF.

One of my favourite Thirds players was Joe Davis who went to Hibs 64ish and had a couple of good seasons at Easter Road. At Cathkin he had an excellent full back partnership with Junior McGillivray but this was ultimately to end when Junior went to Rangers. Johnny Graham was another ex Thirds man who went eventually to Hibs and carved a few good seasons there.
I remember we played Hibs 63/64 at Cathkin and at halftime it was 0-0 in a fairly dour game. This dog then wandered on the pitch and proceeded to 'relieve' itself against the goalpost at the 'Crosshill' end where Thirds would be endeavouring to break the deadlock in the second half. I'm not sure if the dog was Hibs or Thirds but we won 1-0 so you can make your own mind up on that one . The things that stick in your mind!!!
Hi TFF Another Hibs connection is taken from Ally McLeods book,of which I have an autographed copy, When he played his first game against Hibs,he faced Davie Shaw the veteran international, brother of the more famous Jock Shaw....the first time he touched the ball he heard a voice saying " thats it son, take your time, bring it down, now, use it" and the encouragement was coming from Shaw!!
About ten minutes later, he said "you should be settled now, son, now you're on your own"
I saw both Shaw brothers play at the end of thir careers (yes I'm THAT old)
Hi I was in that Third Lanark Ladies Team you are talking about. They don't exist anymore that I am aware of, I stopped playing for them years ago now.
