As a youngster growing up in Kings Park(Primary School) my dad used to take me to cathkin, later on my pals and I would sneak into cathkin via a hole in the fence at the plots (anything to save a tanner) old lad next door to used to take the season ticket books in the main stand, and would take my autograph book to get it signed by visiting teams(still have it). y family moved to the north side of the city in 1965, and Third Lanark seemed a million miles away, however thirds are always a fantastic memory of my childhood, in 1970 I fell in love with Aberdeen f. c. (must be the red and white) and still a dons fanatic, have showed my two daughters Cathkin but they did not show much interest but I am sure my grandson will will be as enthuasiastic as me when we revisit the home of the hi hi .
Hi Fraser, Better late than never for someone to reply to your great reminiscencies of going to Cathkin Park as a lad. I never saw the 'HiHi' play live, unfortunately. The first time I saw Cathkin was when I was going to a Scotland game at Hampden in 1972 and was taken up to see the ground. Although 5 years had taken their toll on the old stadium, the seated stand and small pavilion were still there as well as the big shed over the terracing on the southside. I could only imagine the great players who had played there and graced the hallowed pitch. Hope you can come down to Cathkin to see the new team in action. Come and sat hi to Mathew, Pat, Pete as they have great ambitions and plans for the restoration this great club. Bring your daughters along and we'll try to educate them! Long live the HiHi! Neil
