Gilbert St Elmo Heron died of a heart attack on 27th November 2008 in the United States he was 87.
Gil signed for Thirds in the early 50s after having been released by Celtic following a season at Parkhead.
Gil was the first black footballer to play for Celtic and i presume the first and possibly last to play for the Hi Hi.
His son Gil Scott Heron is a celebrated jazz musician and renowned as a founding light in the inception of rap music.
