I am currently on holiday in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I purchased an interesting little item in an antique shop. This is a small medal, complete with ribbon, slightly larger than a 2p piece, made of brass and enamel - I cannot find a hallmark on it, though it is quite heavy. The front has the Scottish FA crest and the Third Lanark crest, and the words South America 1923 emblazoned on it , and the reverse is inscribed JW Colquhoun 26 June1923. I have done a little browsing through the internet and have obviously been able to find references to the Third Lanark Tour, players' names etc., though in fact few details of the eight matches played. The only reference I can find to a JW Colquhoun is on a letter to a Mr Colhoun, c/o Mr McDonald, Buenos Aires, South America, asking for confirmation of fees etc. From this I assume that Mr Colquhoun was a resident of Buenos Aires, and presumably the instigator of the tour. Possibly this medal was presented to Mr Colquhoun by a Third Lanark official. So, over to you - can anybody provide me with any detail or background about this item, Mr Colquhoun or the tour generally?
