Origin of "Hi HI"?

Was asked on a bluenose site where the HiHi name came from! Seem to recall it was a war-cry of the regiment but not sure.
Want to educate the Gers fans about the great Thirds so any info would be appreciated!

Hi -

The origins of the nickname Hi Hi  Hi  have been many & varied.  In fact the cry came about rather innocently.  Apparantly during a league match at old Cathkin Park, in the late 1890's a Thirds' defender ,in clearing his lines , belted the ball higher than had been witnessed before in that game. A large group of fans, instantly yelled Hi  Hi  Hi, and from that time it became known as  a unique nickname for the club.

Other understandabvle nicknames were the " Redcoats & the Warriors " clearly because of the military association.

In the mid 1950,s Journalist- Jack House of  Glasgow Evening Citizen fame, wrote a piece on this subject in his Saturday Column.   Hope this is of interest.

Bert Bell.

Thanks Bert! Not quite so impressive as a warcry but still interesting! Will pass it on.
BTW there is a great action photo on that site of the Rangersv Thirds game at Ibrox in the 100 goal season (4-3 for Gers). It features wee Jocky Robertson making a save from Brand.
If I can master this copyand paste thing Iwill try to get it for this forum!
