I was too young to think about going for a pint before the game but even now there aren't too many hostelries in the area so i would assume most folk took there own though i don't remember many fans bevvying at Cathkin
A pub near Shawland called "The Quaich" (hope thats the right spelling!)has lots of Thirds pictures on the walls, I wonder if that was a favourite of the HiHi. Also wonder if the Cathkin Inn beside Rutherglen, had any link??
I remember getting the Glasgow Corporation bus No.4A later numbered 34 from near our home in Cardonald, Glasgow with my father on match days. We would get off the bus at Minard Road at Pollokshaws Road and my father would go into The Corona Public House and I had to stand outside and wait on him.He wopuld only be about 10 minutes and we would walk over Battlefield and through the Queens Park Recreation ground and into Cathkin. After the game we would do the very same return journey again stopping for a few minutes for my Dad to get a pint in the Corona. Happy Days, I wish I could still do it although I didn't really like waiting outside the pub in those days. I was about 10years of age and this went on until I was 16 and then I started going to the games myself, no drink though.
