This is a copy of an email sent to Bert Bell. Can anyone help?
Hi, Hi there Bert!
I'm desperately trying to obtain a copy of Still Seeing Red for my 83-year-old father. I've tried Amazon (no fresh copies) and elsewhere without joy. I know it was printed by Glasgow Council libraries and that, apparently, all copies are sold. Also on the lookout for a copy is a friend of mine and council photographer Moira Thorburn who tells me she took your photograph at the original launch of the book. Moira is undertaking a search to see if any copies are available.
Bert, if you know of anyone who may be willing to sell a copy to me, I'd be delighted if you'd contact me. My dad's uncles played for Thirds and he followed the Hi Hi as a boy and a man. He's even got some old shareholder's certificates. For several years, his job took him from Glasgow to Lossiemouth in the North East where I was born. On our return to the city in 1961, he took myself and my brother to Cathkin to see every home game as well as to away fixtures in Glasgow. Alas, our outings came to a sad end in 1967. Third Lanark was a treasured part of my childhood and I have so many fond boyhood memories of Cathkin Park.
Dad was made redundant from his sales manager job in the early '70s and then ran his own taxi firm. I remember him coming home excitedly one evening, telling me he'd just given a lift to Jimmy Carabine. He was over the moon - and so taken was he by his old boyhood hero that he wouldn't allow Jimmy to pay his fare. I know he'd be delighted to read your book, hence my inquiry.
I work as a newspaper journalist in Manchester, where my Mum and Dad both moved to from Glasgow some years ago. He still talks about Third Lanark and after logging on to the Glasgow Story web site, I printed him off the colour pic of your book's front cover. He was delighted.
I met Moira Thorburn just before Christmas and she tells me she had a big hand in digitising all the photos for the web site.
Sorry for going on too long, Bert. But it would be great if you can source me a copy and provide the appropriate payment details etc. All the best and I look forward to a favourable response. Take care. Happy 2005.
He should try Sportspages in Manchester. If they don't have a copy they should be able to order from their London HQ which had it in stock last time I was there a few months ago
