As a schoolboy I remember standing behind the goal at the eastern end of Cathkin, at the Scottish Cup Tie with Dunfermline in 1966. It was a freezing cold late afternoon with the lights on(well half of them as usual). Dunfermline were 2-1 up and we got a penalty with a couple of minutes left. Harry Kirk stepped up and blasted it into the roof of the net. Magic. Evan Williams performed heroics in goal and at least we can say we had a player who reached the European Cup Final
You certainly brought back many memories of great Cathkin cup ties, not to mention former players.
Winger Harry Kirk played 19 Games for Thirds in season 1964/65. He came to is from Middlesborough, then moved on to Falkirk after his Cathkin stint.
You were lucky enough to see him score his only goal, in the Cup tie v the Pars. It was an excellent game which I think ended 1 - 1. In the replay at Dunfermline yet another thrilling 2 - 2 draw was the outcome. The second replay at Tynecastle ended with the scoreline 4-2 to the Fifers, who went on to face Celtic in the final at Hampden Park on 24th April, 1965. Celtic won the cup 3 - 2. The attendance was given as 108,800. !!!
Evan Williams, following a glorious debut against Partick Thistle at Firhill, played 50 games for the Hi Hi's during his relatively short career of just under two seasons. He arrived from Irvine meadow, and of course went on to star with Wolves, & Celtic
