I am currently attempting to write an article for the Woking FC programme on goalscoring goalkeepers. During some internet research I came across the name of Third Lanark legend James Brownlie and how he scored in 1911 from a rebound after initially missing a penalty (although no details were given as to the opponents on the day). What I am looking for in particular is in relation to another mention of Third Lanark from 1910 when, in a mtach against Motherwell, both opposing goalkeepers scored-was Brownlie also responsible for this goal, and was it a penalty or from open play? If anyone could provide me with any details on his goalscoring feats it would be much appreciated.
Up until 1911, goalies could handle the ball up to the half way line. That accounts for the amount of goalies on the scoresheet.
Third Lanark v Motherwell 1910 - both goalkeepers scored in the same match
Dont quote me on this but I dont think brownlie was between the goalposts. However, he did score in 1911, taking the penalty, missing, but scoring the rebound.
