New Website

Bert and I are starting to plan a new website from scratch.  This means that while we will keep the existing content we plan to add to it, but with a new design.  We'll be using a program called Rapid Weaver which allows you to use templates to set the overall style but can also allow the following within the pages.

  • slideshows
  • a blog
  • movies
  • photo album
And lots more.

If you want to see what it can do copy and paste this link to their showcase.

http://www.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver/showcase/

There is only so much we can do due to family/work committments etc but we would really like to know what you would like to see to make the new site really good.

So, can you all use this forum to add your ideas and when Bert and I meet up next week we can add them to our list.

Cheers.

May I add my personal endorsement & plea for response to Alan's invitation  to help  compile    a new web site.  I very much appreciate the extremely time consuming  efforts of Alan, and this type of change will not happen again for some considerable time.

Please support this attempt , and send in your ideas  & views-  NOW.

All views will be seriously considered.  Many thanks.

Bert.

Hi Bert and Alan,
A couple of ideas I had were:
Was it possible to have some actual footage of past Thirds games on the website, say some of the goals on the front page of the website. I am afraid I am not computer minded so ou will have to bear with me. For example the Partick Thistle has a section on its websited where you can view goals etc. I honestly have no ideas at all how you would set this up, but I am sure it could be done.

Also how about Interviews with former Management, players, fans, new fans, people jsut interested in Thirds full stop. I have a mate Paul Darroch who you met Bert, he did filming at the game against Queens Park last year and filmed the 40th Anniversary night etc who could always film interviews for example if you are short.

Again just anotehr possible suggestion would be to expand the image section, I guess there must be hundreds of thousands of photos out there that could be added.

Please dont accept this as criticsim, as website has been one of the great and msot important ways that fans of this grand old club have been able to recollect, meet up with one another and have a chance to discuss all things Third Lanark. Again you will have to forgive my ignorance about my computer ideas as some may not be possible and my knowledge of how to set up websited etc is very very limited. Anyway keep up the great work Bert and Alan it is much appreciated.

The video clips and photographs are both good ideas.  We plan to increase the number of photographs as they can easily be added either from scanned images or if anyone want to email me digital copies to include.  I'm not sure how much video is available but I know that Bert has one or two so they will be added as well.  Everything is possible, it's just that it all takes time.  Anyway thanks very much for your feedback.

I'm pretty much like Partick Thistle lad in most respects re programming etc but I'm willing to chuck in a few ideas...give me a few days to have a think.

I saw the Cathkin Park model on a website...how about a 'virtual tour' of that? Also, I know Bert and Alan you have probably spent a lot of time looking at old match reports etc....If I can be of any help I would like to go into the Mitchell Library and other places and look through to see if anything may be of interest or from a different slant.

Also, what did Hi-Hi supporters wear..eg..what design of tammies, scarves etc (maybe a stupid idea but what the hell)...any pictures left of those?

How many fans did they take to away games? What were the supporters clubs called? (were there any) Were there any Thirds songs...for amous supporters?

How about an artists impression of how fans would like to see Cathkin rebuilt?
ie...people submit drawings/images of their fantasy stadium?

If you need anything written..maybe even from a humourous angle I'd be willing to help. Anyway....I'll keep dipping in and out with some ideas.

By the way expand a little on Partick Thistle lad's comments...there is a goal of Buckley's against Celtic at Cathin in the 60's on YOUTUBE...'Can you Hear the HI-Hi sing'...sorry, you all probably know that.

By the way....Bert, Alan....the new stand looked really good in that game...I take it the fans were fer chuffed when it was built?

Hi all,

I thought I would give some input towards the new website idea. Since it will obviously be a historical based website then a section covering the season by season statistics of Thirds would be relevant. I have done tons of research on Third Lanark, and I now have the stats covering most of their matches. My research covered all the league, scottish cup, league cup, glasgow cup and charity cup matches. I also have most of the friendly matches but this is incomplete.

I would be willing to build a few web pages of stats to let you see. You could also look at http://www.rangershistory.co.uk/seasons/1904-05.html to get an idea of the format I will be using.

Cheers
Alan

I've just finished scanning 250 assorted photographs and cigarette cards and some of them show supporters clubs from I think the fifties or sixties. All the scanned images will appear on the new site at some point.
I would like to include video footage but time and distance (I live 400 miles from Glasgow) mean that I find it difficult. If anyone would like to interview, old players or any fans stories either on audio tape or video I would be delighted to include it for everyones interest.
I would like to include stats and will be in touch Alan nearer the time if that is OK.
Please do keep adding ideas, even design ideas. I'm getting the new software this weekend and so will start to redesign soon.

It would be possible to put match reports of Third Lanark matches on the website. I have a subscription to the Scotsman Digital Archive so could be easily achieved.

The Match Reports would be a great addition if you are still keen Alan?
