If anyone is looking for ideas for Christmas presents then you may be interested to know there is a brand new book out entitle: "Third Lanark Champions of Scotland 1903-1904" by Thomas Taw.
It is priced at £14.99 and is available to buy online, at the SFA at Hampden. My copy has been prdered through Waterstones so though many book shops might not have it in their sports section they can easily order it for you. Though it deals with mainly the championship year of 1903-1904 when the HiHi won both the League and the Scottish cup, it also deals with the clubs sad fall in the 1960's. It is very well researched and from my own personal point of view there is a lot of mention of my Great Grandad John Campbell which is a must buy for me. I also understand Thirds legend Bob Laird helped with a lot of the research for Thomas Taw.
It is a welcome addition to the great books already written on the HiHi by Bert and Bob.
Saw plenty of copies of this book in Waterstones in Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. Is on the ground floor in the Scottish section sitting next to another great book which I can also recommend - Partick Thistle Legends. Both essential reading for me this Christmas
Hi Hi Hi folks....just joined 10 mins ago...I will check out the book...sounds great. Got the Thistle legends book which for a Jags fan like myself is essential reading. I dont have a gripe about the Thistle book...but one thing I would mention....I'd love to put together a book with loads of action pictures of Jags and one of Thirds....I've only just scratched the surface on Thirds but I want so badly to see action pics...especially as I would like to see the stadium in the background. But there doesnt seem to be any action shots. Made my first trip to Cathkin on Saturday...(I'm sorry to say it took so long) so I will add comments elsewhwere. I'm really excitedabout this site and the possiblility of goin to see the team playing.
Hi Whitburn Jag, Just looking through some of the topics and belatedly saw this. Matt ( Partick Thistle lad ) has an excellent book on Thirds with many action pictures of the team playing at Cathkin as well as the team being photographed in front of the stands and pavilion, all over many decades. I'm sure there are quite a few shots of Matt's grandad looking very dapper in his early 1900's goalie kit! I think there are also some pics of the stadium, both before and after 1967, especially some very poignant early seventies ones, ( when I first visited the stadium as a mere boy ), with all the structures of the stadium intact but showing signs of decay and neglect. Unfortunately, I cant remember the name of the book but I'm sure Matt can furnish you with the title. Bye for now. Neil
