Anniversary night

Hi,
Just like to say thanks to everyone who organised the anniversary bash on Saturday at the Bowling Club. Great talk by Bert, lots of heart - felt emotions shown by the ex players introduced to the audience, lots of friendly conversation with fans and players alike and, not least, a great buffet!. I particularly enjoyed the great footage of Thirds playing Celtic twice with Alex Cameron ( I think? ) doing the commentaries. But what amazing colour footage of Third Lanark v Partick Thistle with the Jags in their away kit of dark blue shirts, ( thistle badge on the left breast but no numbers on the back of the shirts! ) and white shorts. Fantastic. It seemed to me, also, that Thirds played a really open, flowing style of football back then, immaculately dressed in their classic scarlet shirts with V neck and white shorts and socks. For me, who never had the chance to see Third Lanark in the flesh, it was magical.
During the night, I spoke to fans who regaled me with tales of old games at Cathkin Park, the old rivalries with Clyde, Queens Park and Partick Thistle, the great history of the club with its military roots and the pioneering tours that Thirds undertook well before they were common practice. I spoke to guys who are at this moment working hard getting the team together for the coming season in the amateur leagues and raising money to finance this new Thirds adventure which we all hope will see Thirds progressing up the ladder of Scottish football in the fullness of time. However, at the end of the night I had the privilage to speak with and shake the hands of many of the former players and their families who seemed genuinely amazed and pleasantly surprised ( I think ), that someone  from Edinburgh ( i.e me ) would take the trouble to go through to Glasgow and support the club and its endeavours to ressurect itself through the dedicated work of its supporters and friends. Well, all I can say is, I got drenched going from my house to the bus station, I got drenched going from Buchanan Street to Mount Florida and its environs, I got drenched going back home both in Glasgow and Edinburgh about three times altogether ( although by this time having drunk too many pints of heavy I had passed caring ), but it was all worth it to be part of such a memorable occasion and to see the genuine affection that is held for this great club and I hope that in the near future I can help, in some way, to resurrect Third Lanark, a club which is, in my opinion, a proud part of the heritage of Scottish football. Again, thanks to all and lets get behind everyones efforts to revive the Hi Hi again.

                                                                          all Hi Hi things
