I have seen a few pictures of Cathkin Park taking about 1968/1969 and I see the stands, clubhouse etc are still there, even though sadly the team was no longer on the go. Does anyone know when the stands, clubhouse etc were taken away? Would it have been the early 1970's? Whenever it was it must have been a very sad time for the supporters, who already had to endure the end of the club in 1967. Thankfully a lot of the terracing still at least remains and those plotting to build houses etc ont he land were at least foiled.
The vandals moved in fairly quickly after the demise and i reckon it would be late 60s early 70s when the bulldozers appeared. The main stand was set on fire and part of the middle section went up in smoke.I remember playing for the school against Holyrood around 68/69 (don't recall too much damage at that time) who somehow were given 'permission' to use it for home games...we only had Nether Pollok .
The 'cooncil' must have done the sculpting and installed metal crush barriers to replace the old stone ones and i suppose if the trees hadn't been planted the place would probably have become a real eyesore...at least some of it is still there .
Thanks Bigeye, As you say its good that some of it is still there, but a disgrace that much of the stadium and the team had to disappear in the first place.
