Third Lanark Night

A very enjoyable Third Lanark night was had by all, last tuesday at the Mosspark Bowling Club, temporary home to Third Lanark Athletic Club as the makeshift sign stated at the front.

Around about 45 people attended the event and it is testimoney to the strength of feeling towards this great club, that on a midweek night complete with very poor weather that so many peopel were able to make it along. We were priviledged to be able to spend the evening in the company of two Third Lanark legends. Ian Thomson centre forward for the HiHi in the mid 1950's and Willie Reid who played with the club from 1947 to 1953. Willie played with Jimmy Mason and Bobby Mitchell for the HiHi and the three used to instill fear in opposition defence and he and his family thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Bert Bell as always gave us an excellent and informative talk on this much missed Glasgow club and I dont think Im alone in hoping he both writes another book and has "Still Seeing Red" republished. As well as expanding on the history of the club, the palyers, famous games, he illustrates the comparison between Third Lanarks cruel decline, with the situation many clubs today face in Scottish football and how finances dictate the game today.

In addition a mini exhibition of Third Lanark memrobilia was provided by both Pat McGeady and Bert Bell featuring exhibition cards, colour photos and HiHi programmes. I would like to add my own personal thanks to both Bert Bell and Pat McGeady for a great evening and for all their work in getting the night organised.

Plans are already under way to have another evening, this time with footage of various Third Lanark football games against Partick Thsitle, Celtic etc. I for one cant wait to get a chance to see rare footage of the team in action.
