Thirds on TV

I was just flicking through the 50 best matches book when i stopped to relive the 1963 Glasgow Cup Final win v Celtic.I wasn't at the game but i do remember watching some grainy highlights (i'm not sure if it was the Scotsport camera to blame or our 'radio rental' monstrosity of a TV) either that night (if i'm not mistaken it was a mid week game??) or the following evening. It was only when i read the report in the book that i realised the Final was played at Hampden as i got the impression (failing memory!!) it was at Parkhead (obviously not) anway it got me to thinking that i have very little recollection of Thirds being 'honoured' by appearing as the 'big match' or whatever on Scotsport (in my time anyway of watching Thirds '63 to '67).

I suppose we were on the downward spiral by then and weren't much in demand by 'Arthur' and the boys but i do recall they managed to get a 5-0 humping by Rangers at Cathkin ( one of only two occasions i watched a Thirds game from the Hi Hi stand) on telly.

These are the only games i can recall seeing our heroes on the box (or was i sent to bed early and missed several others ) but i was wondering if any of our viewers out there have any other recollections of Hi Hi tv.

I remember watching Thirds on the telly quite a few times as I was mainly looking for myself  as I was on ballboy duty on the main stand side.

As the cameras were on the main stand side as well it wasn't often I could be seen and my father wouldn't let me be a ballboy behind the goals for some reason I think it was because I was too wee and would take too long to get the ball back to the keeper especially if we were losing, that is one disappointment I hold to this day.

I remember the Glasgow Cup victory not for the game itself but for having the Glasgow Cup on the sideboard in the house.

I think there is footage on the British pateh website of a Third Lanark v Dundee game. Also Bert ahs footage of the 1956 Glasgow cup final where Thirds beat Partick Thistle.
If I had been around then I would ahve been hoping for a draw

Hello,

I can confirm there is TV highlights of several Thirds matches,  v Celtic, Kilmarnock, Hearts, & Partick Thistle. + others.

As you know I am Presenting a talk on Thirds on 14th March, at Mosspark Bowling Club 7.30pm. & iif there is good interest in this night, then at a future evening I would consider trying to organise a show of  such  highlights etc.

Let's see how our Talk goes on 14th March.

I can tell you the difference in the 50's TV presentation  quality, and  now is amazing, but the games are genuinely excellent & provide a  great display by Thirds.
