Third Lanark Supporters Club

Does anyone know if the supporters club lasted for quite a while after the demise of the club?

More importantly would nayone be interested in setting one up, say meet in a pub about the south side once every couple of months talk about the history of the club etc over a few pints.  Could get the likes Of Peter Docherty etc whos running the new club to join us etc.

The reaosn I was suggeesting this is that in Edinburgh they have set up an East Caost Partick Thsitle supporters club, they just meet for a pint say once a month or once every two months and speak about the Jags.  Cos im Glasgow based I ahvent made it through but I brother is through there so he has been.  They jsut choose a random pub and meet there for a few pints.  Of course the first one they had to choose had to be called The Thsitle Bar.

I know a few people who do not have access to the internet but have a keen interest in the HiHi and would be up for meeting up for a pint at some point.  I know theres quite a few posters on here that are overseas, but theres a few that are in the Glasgow area, copuld be a good idea?

Also my mates Uncle is oming over from Melbourne for a months holiday, he's from Galsgow and used to see all six Glasgow teams play int he sixties, ahs warm memories of the HiHi and was brorn on Montford Avenue just about 5-10 mins from cathkin

I had membership for one year but this was before the final year and i never renewed it as i was unable to get to any of the meetings (i was a kid after all!!) and didn't go to the away games on the supporters bus (ma da wouldn't take me!!).I think i joined just to be a card carrying supporter but to answer your question i think it carried on for a couple of years until a proposal was put forward to wind it up which wasn't opposed and i guess that was it.

Thirds Bevy Club

Might be an idea but based on the contributions on this forum there won't be many attending!! I'm sure there will at some point be another Bob Laird 'show' where some new recruits could be signed on

Will maybe aim for people meeting up for a pint about the end of October or November. I know a few people who would be interested in meeting up for a chat about Thirds who dont have access to the Internet

Hi,

I am very much in favour in this, and would be very happy to answer all queries from former fans at that meeting.

I would also bring along a series of 8 large cards containing  a pictorial history of Thirds throughout their glorious 95 years involvement in Scottish football. The cards have proved to be extremely popular when  on display at    Exhibitions or  at my Presentations on the Club, throughout Scotland.

The only problem would be "Pub Space" to display the cards.  Happy to help if the plan materialises.

Bert.

Just a quickie

In todays Daily Record (Archie McPherson article) there was a pic of the holy ground and just to enlighten the uninitiated the pic was a 'mirror image' ie the 'stand' should have on the opposite side!!!!! pic taken from the Pie Hut

Was at Cathkin this week watching a neighbours wee lad playing an under 13 game (lost about 6-1 ) and took the opportunity to do the 'tour' 1st time back since the 'young' Hi Hi's(PTL)last home league game...it's still brill to meander over the old terraces!!!

RE: Third Lanark Supporters Club

Bigeye,
Was down in ENgland this weekend, so I didnt get a chance to buy the Daily Record. Was there a big feature on Thirds and was there a website link to it?
Cheers

No it wasn't an article specific to Thirds it was just a duff pic with a throw away line from Archie re Thirds demise in so much that they went down without a fight while the rest of Scottish Football was on a high (not Hi Hi ) in 1967 with the Old Firm in the two major euro finals and the national team defeating England at Wembley.

Obviously living here in Edinburgh, would not be able to make very many meetings but if you are looking to take cash to join up, please let me know and I will send my "subscription".

I dont think wwould need a subscription Kenny, just a pub that would suit everyone for a couple of hours to have a chat. I reckon maybe near the begining of November would be good, will liase with Bert to think of a suitable date and pub.
