PTL this is not an easy quest...it's difficult enough to find Thirds supporters let alone famous ones
Anyway in Bert's book there is a photo of the team at the 'Alhambra' and Alec Findlay a Scottish Entertainer (well he's in a kilt) of the 40s is reputed be a fan.
Doug Baillie and Davie Hilley ex Thirds players and now journalists with the Sunday Post (i think).I'm sure they will be regarded as 'famed' for their literary ability rather than their sporting prowess by some SP readers!
Jack McLean the 'Urban Voltaire' journalist, philosopher, whisky expert (can be found the odd time in Heraghtys his southside haven) and fedora hat wearer purports to be a Hi Hi man but i 'hae ma doots'
One of the most famous Celebrities to follow Thirds, was the late stage & screen Star -
Anna neagle.
In 1948, Anna was appointed Honorary president of the Third Lanark AC supporters Association, and during that season attended at least two matches at Cathkin.
Of course the late, Alec Findlay, one of Glasgow's most loved commedians, of the 40/50's era certainly was a real Thirds fan.
We had a couple of discussions during my research work for Still Seeing Red, and his enthusiasm for the Club was patently obvious I was delighted when he presented me with a photo for inclusion in my Book - He stood resplendant in Thirds kit, with the one and only Jimmy Mason at his side in the Finlay Tartan kilt - one to treasure of two Top Stars. The photo was taken on stage at the Alhambra theatre in Glasgow
I have to ask - why was Anna Neagle anything to do with Thirds? As she was born on the outskirts of east London, there's not an obvious link there. Did she live in Scotland in her later life?
