Due to not being able to follow the Jags up to Perth for the game against St Johnstone this saturday due to having friends round on saturday evening I have found out that the new Third Lanark team will be playing this saturday at Cathkin Park at 14:00pm. I intend going along with a few mates, but just to let you's know that there will be a game there this saturday (weather permitting). Might head into the Queens Park cafe for a quick pint before the game, so if anyone wants to head along the more the merrier.
The games I have already seen them play have been good entertainment and they are the favourites to win their division.
Was speaking earlier to the guy that runs the new Thirds team. There next few games are away from home, but will keep me posted when they are playing at home so I can pass the info on. His plan is for hopefully to be junior in 2-3 years time at Cathkin Park. It will require quite a bit of hard work but he is confident.
The new Third Lanark team are playing at Cathkin Park at 2pm against Duntocher. I am planning to head along to it. Was speaking to the guy running it today and he said he is always looking for as many people as possible ot assist in any way they can with the new team so if anyone wants to have a word with him regarding helping out then come along and say to him. Come along anyway to watch an entertaining game of football, the ones I have seen so far this season have been good.
While on this theme one time MP for Cathcart, Teddy Taylor, tried to resurrect Thirds in the late 70s by way of an amateur team.It received quite a bit of publicity and there certainly was hope that something would come of it.
A match was arranged against a Queens Park XI at Lesser Hampden and would you believe it a crowd of over 4000 turned up,unfortunatley Thirds got humped either 4-0 or 5-0 but that was incidental.
Sadly nothing did come of it and i suppose it was a bit 'pie in the sky' to think they could make a come back and any moves weren't helped when Teddy Taylor lost his seat at the General Election and any clout seemed to go with him.
The next home game for the Third Lanark amateur team will be at Cathkin Park on Saturday 5th March at 14:00pm. Again its a case of the more the merrier for those wishing to come along.
Please note for anyone who was planning to attend that the game on saturday 5th March has now been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date. When I get further word of the next fixtures I will let you's know as soon as I can.
