Third Lanark lost a sloppy match to Rannoch due, in part, to poor defending but also sadly attributable to the failure of many key players to show up for duty on Saturday afternoon at Cathkin Park. Thirds have recently taken good strides in recording five straight victories and began to look like a decent team but in the last week players have failed to turn up to play for the club in two matches and have let both the club and their fellow team members down.
Rannoch were quick out of the traps and cut through the Thirds makeshift defence on several occasions early in the game. They scored after 20 minutes when two Rannoch forwards came clean through and had the simplest of tasks in drawing the keeper for a one-two and slotting the ball home. Five minutes later Rannoch were two ahead when a routine shot heading into the keeper's gloves was inexplicably deflected high into the net by hapless defender Gary McBride giving keeper Coyle no chance to react.
Thirds did have a chance to pull one back early in the second half when the referee awarded a penalty in the 55th minute but Thirds current failure to convert from 12 yards continued as Willie Hamilton saw his tame effort easily saved by the rarely troubled Rannoch keeper. With ten minutes to go Rannoch wrapped up the points with a 20 yarder into the bottom corner.
